western cluster

Welcome to the official website for the 2008 Western Education & Training Cluster Conference. We are pleased to be providing this fantastic opportunity for Western Cluster staff, to once again come together and share practice innovations, networking, and important issues for your workplace.

2008 has brought with it an increased focus on system redesign, complexity, and workforce issues for Mental Health Services. We encourage and welcome all cluster staff to attend the 2008 conference, as these issues are critical for everyone working across Mental Health Services.

Although not yet finalised, the 2008 conference program promises to be one full of experienced clinical and service leaders, able to contribute experience, knowledge, and practical strategies, in working with the complexity of Mental Health Services.

Watch this space for a completed program coming soon.

Conference Aims:

  • To expose clinicians and managers to targeted innovations in service delivery
  • To provide a medium to raise issues of importance and controversy, as well as exploring solutions
  • To provide information on a wide variety of professional issues that encapsulates Innovation and Change
  • To examine the link between policy and practice, especially in relation to future directions documents
  • To explore roles, stronger links, structures and processes, that facilitate more integrated care across services/sectors

Conference Themes:

  1. Working in Complex Systems – this theme encourages you to think about the benefits & challenges of collaborations and cross sector/agency relationships. It asks you to consider the types of work, and/or specific projects that you have been involved in, and what others might learn from this. It also focuses on how effective team dynamics and multidisciplinary relationships can substantially enhance what we do. Consumer and carer involvement is just one area where many gains have been made, as a result of positive collaborations.
  2. Care Directions – This theme targets the direct care focus. In particular, we ask that you consider the types of work being done that relate more specifically with future policy influences. For example; prevention & promotion, early intervention, specialist care, & responding to vulnerable groups.
  3. Workforce Directions – Having a sustainable mental health workforce for the future is everybody’s business. A lot of creative and innovative work has been done over recent years to strengthen the workforce. This issue is still very much on the agenda. We have a diverse, multidisciplinary workforce that includes important partnerships with consumers and carers. Tell us about the types of work and/or projects that you have been involved with, and the range of results produced.
